Happening in Kannapolis

Starting this month the Kannapolis Parks and Recreation Department is offering several trips to attractions in North and South Carolina. They will include Charleston, Boone and more. For information or to sign up contact the Kannapolis Parks and Rec. 

The Kannapolis Library has one more "Stories Under the Stars" Saturday, September 25 at 7pm on the patio.

Summer Activities

Summer break is coming to an end, but you still have time to get out and have some fun.

You still have two more chances to catch "Stories Under the Stars" on the patio at the Kannapolis Library, Saturday August 21st and September 25 at 7pm.

Of course the parks are still open. Bakers Creek Park offers walking trails and miniature golf. The Village Park offers train rides and the splash pad. Picnic ares and playgrounds are available at both.

THINGS TO DO IN KANNAPOLIS

Stories Under the Stars continue Saturday August 21th at 7pm at the Kannapolis Library on the Patio. 

Summer Concert in Village Park continue July 30 & 31 at 7pm with "Beach Music Festival".

All these events are free and open to the public so come out and enjoy.

KANNAPOLIS CITY SCHOOLS

Congratulations to A.L. Brown High School for being named one of America’s best High Schools. For the second year in a row U.S. News & World Report has named A.L. Brown High School among the nation’s best high schools! The magazine awarded A.L. Brown a Bronze Medal for outstanding performance. A.L. Brown is the only school in Cabarrus County to earn this recognition. We are proud to have such a good school and school system here in Kannapolis. Congratulations again. FIRST TIME HOME BUYERS PROGRAM EXTENDED!

Most of you are aware that this program has been extended. You now have until April 30, 2010 to enter into a contract to purchase a home, and you must close by June 30, 2010. You are then eligible for up to an $8,000.00 tax credit. This figure is based on 10% of the purchase price up to $8,000.00.

The program has been expanded to include move-up buyers. You must have been living in your current home for five of the last eight years. This tax credit is also based on 10% of the purchase price but only up to $6,500.00. You are eligible if you are under contract to purchase a home by April 30, 2010 and you must close by June 30, 2010.

Viva Verde Earth Fest

Kannapolis and Concord along with Cabarrus County will be holding a joint Earth Day Festival at the North Cabarrus Park in Kannapolis on Saturday April 24 from 10am to 2pm.  There will be arts and crafts, an art contest, music, nature walks, children's activities, recycling, paper shredding, food and more.  Please come out and enjoy a day in the park and learn what you can do to help our planet.

KANNAPOLIS FIRE DEPARTMENT HONORS

The Kannapolis Fire Department has recognized two members with top awards.  Captain Jody Kerr received the Officer of the Year Award for his dedication to his job and for challenging others to strive for perfection.  Firefighter Greg Summitt received the Firefighter of the Year Award for his commitment to quality service and his dedication to training of personnel.  Congratulations to these firefighters. Let's all show our appreciation to these public servants who dedicate themselves to protecting the lives and property of the people of Kannapolis.
